All markets are liars. A line which is really famous and most of the people agree to it. The moment anybody says marketers, all they have to say are never trust them. But if this was true howcome such god like following for cult brands like Mercedes and Harley Davidson. This was marketed by the same marketer. I would take another standpoint to this and they marketers are the face of the products and service they promote or sell, they can be manipulators at times but are not liars.
